In Marine Communications, there is a difference. The Commander difference.

Element Design :
Electrically superior all-brass elements provide maximum impedance and gain bandwidths.
Advantage: These heavy gauge elements constitute the most durable construction obtainable. Performance and reliability were the major design criteria.
Foam Dampers :
Closed-cell urethane foam dampers isolate the element assembly from the interior wall of the radome.
Advantage: Spaced throughout the radome, these dampers absorb shock and vibration eliminating the element-rattle found in many other antenna systems.
Premium Coating :
Commander's unique UV-stabilized coating is the highest grade urethane available.
Advantage: The flexible, high-gloss white finish is designed to solve the chipping problems inherent in other high gloss finishes.
Soldered Connections:
The preferred type of electrical connection for antenna applications.
Advantage: No crimped or "staked" junctions to fail due to vibration or oxidation, thus eliminating unnecessary "system noise" to provide the clearest communication possible.
Advanced Grounding System :
Commander's decoupling sleeve was designed to produce the lowest possible radiation angles while minimizing transmission-line return-loss.
Advantage: This eliminates the detuning of elements as a result of antenna placement or shortening of the transmission cable.
Solid State Matching Circuit :
Solid State Variable-Inductor Circuitry results in precise impedance matching.
Advantage: All Commander VHF antennas are individually tuned to provide maximum transfer of power to the radiating elements, producing the best VSWR ratings achievable.
Triple-Locked Junctions :
All sectional antennas feature threaded ferrules which are first screwed together and then secured with stainless steel set screws.
Advantage: Assures a positively locked connection that prevents antenna sections from "backing off" while under way.
FRP Construction :
Commander utilizes the latest composite technology to provide a radome of maximum structural integrity.
Advantage: No breaking, No cracking, No splitting - Even under the harshest marine conditions.
RG8X Transmission Cable :
Only premium grade UV-stabilized RG8X cable is used throughout the entire product line.
Advantage: Using low-loss RG8X rather than the industry-norm RG58 assures maximum transfer of power to the antenna.
User-Friendly PL259 Connectors :
Factory-installed cable-termination fitting eases installation of both connector and transmission line.
Advantage: This eliminates the need to drill large holes for cable routing and ensures a positive electrical connection.
Heavy Duty Ferrules :
Heavily-chromed brass ferrules are epoxy-bonded to radomes and utilized for all base-mount models, with heavy gauge stainless steel sleeves being used on all mast-mount models. All sectional junctions of both series incorporate the chromed-brass combination.
Advantage: Precision-machined and polished brass provides a smooth base for the thicker plating, producing a mirror like finish and added resistance to pitting and corrosion in a salt water environment.
